Pursuit United Rye: The Oak Collection #11CC Review

  • Intro:

Pursuit Spirits Oak Collection features a blend of whiskey from Kentucky and Maryland that”s blended and then finished with Innerstave cubes of Toasted American Oak and French Oak. Distillery sources are Bardstown Bourbon Company and Sagamore Spirit. Let’s dive in!

  • Nose:

Bold and rich, a maple bomb that combines zesty cracked pepper, honey, clove and a touch of candied ginger.

  • Taste:

Medium viscosity on the palate. Honey, toffee, rye spice, bold herbal kick and a dry, oaky component that balances both with pleasant character.

  • Finish:

Long finish. This is more like it. Sweet marshmallow, creme brulee and caramelized sugar combines with oak and rye spice, herbal spearmint and a raw, cracked pepper note for a long finish that’s a trip and a half.

  • Overall:

The bourbon from the Oak Collection wasn’t my jam – it was good but certainly not great. This rye, on the other hand, is great and takes a complementary approach to combining sweet finishing woods like Toasted Oak and French Oak with biting and bold rye character.
