Sri Lanka’s head coach Chris Silverwood has given his support for Dasun Shanaka to land an IPL deal After Dasun Shanaka’s outstanding 100 against India in the Guwahati ODI on Tuesday. Silverwood thinks Shanaka’s undefeated 88-ball 108 will help him re-enter the IPL market.
In the opening ODI against India, Sri Lanka was defeated by 67 runs, despite Dasun Shanaka’s century.

As India thrashed Sri Lanka by 67 runs in the opening one-day international of the three-match series at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati, Virat Kohli and Dasun Shanaka stole the show. The visitors finished their 50 overs at 306 for 8 with Dasun Shanaka’s unbeaten 108 off 88 balls, but India made a challenging total of 373 for 7 thanks to Virat Kohli’s 113 off 87 balls, his 73rd international century.
Rohit Sharma (83) and Shubman Gill (70) of India built a strong foundation with a 143-run opening stand after Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka called for the hosts to play first after winning the toss. In his 10-over performance, Kasun Rajitha took three wickets but also gave up 88 runs. Dasun Shanaka, Pathaum Nissanka (72), and Dhananjaya de Silva (47) displayed strong fortitude during Sri Lanka’s pursuit but were unable to save a loss. The best bowler was Umran Malik, who finished with 3 for 57.
“Dasun Shanaka has put himself in the marketplace now”: Chris Silverwood
Shanaka, batting at No. 6, offered Sri Lanka a sliver of hope with his counter-attacking innings as they managed 306 for 8 to suffer a 67-run loss on Tuesday despite being reduced to 179 for 7 in their pursuit of a massive 374.
“I think Dasun Shanaka has done himself a world of good,” Silverwood said during a media interaction after the first ODI.
“He has put himself in the marketplace now. I am sure the (IPL) franchises will be looking at him and seeing how dynamic a cricketer he is. He is a great striker of the ball, so hopefully, he will get an opportunity.” Chris Silverwood Added.
The IPL 2023 auction, which was held in Kochi last month, had no takers for Shanaka, which had a base price of Rs 50 lakh.
