Stone on whisky – recommends Wick’s Old Pulteney at parliamentary debate

Far North MP Jamie Stone paid tribute to Wick’s Old Pulteney single malt whisky in parliament today (December 15) calling it one of the best in the world.

Asking a question during this morning’s International Trade questions, the Liberal Democrat MP for Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross urged the Government to ensure that current and future trade deals push the sales of Highlands whiskies internationally.

Mr Stone asked: “If you want to enter into the Christmas spirit, then I do recommend a dram of Dalmore, Glenmorangie, Balblair, Clynelish or Old Pulteney.

“It is a widely recognised fact that the Highland single malts are the best whiskies in the world. Not withstanding the fact that the Minister is an Aberdeenshire man, will he make sure that the sales for these whiskies are pushed very strongly indeed?”

Andrew Bowie MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Exports responded: “Well, I would be very pleased to visit my honourable friend’s constituency and try all of those fine whiskies that he speaks of.

“Yes, in fact, I met with the SWA just last week – they are very excited about the current trajectory of Scotch whisky sales overseas and, in fact, very excited about what we are doing in India to reduce the tariffs on Scotch whisky so that we can further promote this fantastic Scottish export around the world.”
