The Traitors is a new Peacock original competition series based on the Dutch series De Verraders. The concept is based on games like Werewolf and Secret Hitler, where a group of players has to complete missions while one is secretly sabotaging the whole operation. These social deduction games have been a huge hit, especially with the video game sensation Among Us. In the U.S. version of The Traitors, Scottish actor Alan Cumming hosts the series where 20 participants engage in group challenges while three among them are responsible for disrupting the mission.
Last week, Peacock teamed up with Just Fix It (JFI) Productions, a company known for its immersive theatre experiences like Creep LA and The Willows, to produce an experience that was held for two days that captures the essence of the show. The collaboration between the two turned Los Angeles’ Carondelet House into a Tartan bazaar that was the gateway for the competition. The bazaar had a giant charcuterie board and drinks including Macallan Scotch whisky, which is very fitting since the show is set in the Scottish Highlands. There were activities including getting a painted portrait of yourself courtesy of a portraitist and tarot card readings.
Media and influencers were invited to participate in The Traitors Immersive Game Play Experience where they form groups to complete different types of challenges including concentration card games, solving riddles, and unlocking chests. However, one among us is a traitor, and we had to make sure they didn’t sabotage the game while also figuring out who they are.
The experience took us into many different rooms, and it was a 30-minute experience that had us rushing to complete the puzzles and competition. Communication is key, and the traitor had the opportunity of “murdering” us during each portion. If you were eliminated by the traitor, you will get a disadvantage in the following puzzle.
It was a night of fun with new friends, and it prepared us for what to expect in the Peacock series.
