The winter holidays are ON and American craft brewers are addressing things with festive beers you’re gonna want to have under the Christmas tree.
Chain Reaction (Croydon, PA) – Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company is an award-winning craft brewery and taproom located just north of Philadelphia in Bucks County. And they are celebrating the holiday season with a taproom exclusive that’s only available at Neshaminy Creek’s Croydon, Dublin and New Hope taprooms.
Named with a nod to Charles Dickens and his classic novella, A Christmas Carol, Marley’s Chain is an 8.9% ABV German-style Weizenbock with a touch of zesty sweet orange blossom honey that then took a long winter’s 18 month nap in Woodford Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey barrels before brewers added a generous helping of pomegranate puree.
“Marley was dead, to begin with, but this beer is alive with the holiday spirit!” says Neshaminy Creek Head Brewer, Jason Ranck. “When we first set out to make a themed beer for the winter season, we knew we wanted to harness great old-school fruit flavors with rich maltiness and spicy finishes, and once we tasted the delicious barrel-aged beer we knew we created something reminiscent of a classic Dickensian Christmas.”
Nothing To Bark At (Cape May, NJ) – Cape May Brewing has a new holiday release that was inspired by a favorite Christmas candy, Peppermint Bark. Brewed with chocolate and crystal malts for a roasty base that’s sweet and warm with just the right amount of body, Cape May Bark Breaker is 7.6% ABV Baltic Porter with sweet peppermint and white chocolate notes.
Reason For Jubilation (Boulder, CO) – While not a Christmas beer is the purest sense, Avery Brewing’s beloved winter limited release is truer to the season and more holiday-ready than most. Avoiding the obvious seasonal spicing, and opting instead for a perfect blend of five specialty malts, Avery Old Jubilation is a gorgeous mahogany 8.3% ABV English-Style Strong Ale with a hint of hazelnut, and a finish reminiscent of mocha and toffee.
